Call for Papers
The Journal of Seas and Oceans welcomes submissions of original research articles, theoretical analyses, and policy studies that advance interdisciplinary understanding of maritime and ocean-related issues. We invite contributions from scholars, practitioners, and institutions across law, science, policy, and the social sciences. Submissions may address, but are not limited to, the following thematic areas:
1. Maritime Law and Governance
Explorations of international and regional legal frameworks governing the seas, including the interpretation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), maritime boundary disputes, jurisdictional questions, and mechanisms for dispute resolution. Articles may also examine maritime security, compliance, and governance institutions.
2. Marine Environmental Protection and Sustainability
Research on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity, ecosystem-based management, and the prevention of marine pollution. Topics may include the effects of climate change on oceans, marine protected areas, and strategies for achieving the goals of sustainable ocean stewardship.
3. Science and Technology of the Seas
Studies that advance understanding of oceanographic processes, marine ecology, and technological innovations supporting ocean monitoring, modeling, and resource management. Papers addressing the blue economy, marine renewable energy, and sustainable technology solutions are particularly encouraged.
4. Socioeconomic and Cultural Dimensions
Analyses of the human dimensions of ocean use, including coastal livelihoods, fisheries economics, indigenous and local knowledge, maritime cultural heritage, and issues of social justice, gender, and inclusion in maritime governance.
5. Policy, Diplomacy, and International Relations
Discussions of maritime diplomacy, regional cooperation, and conflict prevention within ocean and sea regions. Papers may address international policy instruments, multilateral negotiations, or the pursuit of peace and stability through the rule of law and SDG 14 (Life Below Water).
6. Education, Advocacy, and Communication
Articles on ocean literacy, capacity building, and public engagement in marine governance. This includes the role of education, advocacy, and media in shaping public understanding and policy discourse on maritime and environmental issues.
